BANANA STEM CURRY ( A Simple, Easy and Healthy Option for regular routine)

This is the curry which I make very often for lunch box of my better half because it is very easy and less time taking. More over it is very health option for those people who are in diet.



Banana stem - 2 cups ( Cut in small cubes )
Green gram Dal - 1/2 cups
Salt - to taste
Good quality of samber powder - 2 tsp
Tomato - 2 medium sized ( Finely chopped)
Oil - 1 tsp
Split black gram dal - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves - finely chopped.


  • Wash banana stem.
  • Take a pressure cooker.
  • Add washed green gram dal and banana stem.
  • Put 1 cup water along with tomato, salt and samber powder.
  • Cook in medium heat till you get three whistles.
  • Wait till cooker cools down.
  • Heat a pan with oil.
  • Add black gram dal, cumin seeds and asaefotida 
  • Temper the curry with this.
  • Put this to curry.
  • Sprinkle coriander leaves and serve with rice or roti.


  • You can also use left out dal for this curry.
  • Instant of samber powder you can use 2 tsp coriander and 1 tsp chilli powder.

Subhashini, thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I like the looks of yours and of course, I always like Indian Cooking (although probably not as spicy hot as you :)

You mentioned using "left out dal". Could you explain for me, please, if you mean it's okay to use "leftover dal" or it's okay to leave it out of the recipe. Thanks.

Thanks for dropping in my blog. Using Dal in this dish gives you little thick texture in curry and as well as balance the too much spicy taste.
